Lake Alta with Mom

Monday the 14th of July at 7:30am, Mom (82) and I started up to Lake Alter at in the Remarkables (Queenstown). The day was not as clear as we would have liked it but besides being cold (starting at 3 degrees Celsius, and dropping to just above -2 degrees, the weather held and we even had some sun.
While not a long hike, the snow and steepness of some of the path did present it's challenges.

Being far South, 7:30am was pretty dark when we strapped on the crampons and started up to the lake which sits at the base of Single and Double Cones.
We had just started when John passed us on his way up to Single Cone.

The snow was not too soft to need snowshoes which was good as we were able to use crampons which made ascending the steep sections possible for Mom.
And then we were at the top. Unfortunately not clear skies but still beautiful and worthwhile as always :)
After a brief rest and taking in of the views, we started down again.
Slowly, slowly we navigated the steeper parts down.
Back at the start of the ski-fields, we then drove back to Queenstown to meet the rest of the family at the Luge.
